Numbers 22:2-25:9

by Yehoshua ben Moshe

Shalom Aleichem,

We commence this D’var Torah by focusing on the title of the portion. The title of the portion is entitled BALAK. BALAK is the son of Zippur, the king of MOAB. The sidrah begins by giving us an illustration of how the MOAB & MIDIAN reacts to its fear of the Nation of Israel. The fact that Torah gives us a “BEHIND THE SCENES” description of what goes on , this also shows us in the ROOT LANGUAGE the HASHGACHA that is being used by the Holy Blessed One of Yisrael. BALAK hired balaam to curse Israel and in the process of the story there is an important concept to understand, “ The elders of Moab and the elders of Midian went with charms in their hands; they came to Balaam and spoke to him the words of Balak. He said to them, “Spend the night here and I shall give you a response, as HASHEM shall speak to me”. Numbers.22:7,8. Balaam is said to be the only prophet outside of Israel, yet even he had to say what G-d was saying concerning Israel, “God came to Balaam at night and said to him, “If the men came to summon you, arise and go with them, but only the thing that I shall speak to you – that shall you do.” Humanity is in the world of Atzulut, that is the speaking world. There are different worlds that have to MASTERED in order to reach the Goal of Creation. The Goal of Creation is for ALL OF HUMANITY to become like the CREATOR. The world of ASSIYAH is the lowest world in which there lies the quality in that world which is the INANIMATE. The world higher than that is YETZIRAH in which there lies the quality of that world which is the VEGETATIVE. The world higher than that is BERIYAH in which there lies the quality of that world which is the ANIMATE. The world higher than that is ATZULUT in which there lies the quality of that world which is the SPEAKING. The world higher than that is ADAM KADMON in which there lies the quality of that world  which is PURE SOUL CONSCIOUSNESS. At this particular time in space we are in the SPEAKING world where we are purposed to MASTER the TONGUE in which we will say exactly what ECHAD says. When He says “ Let there be light” He is using the creative power of WORDS to CREATE. Those who are In the process of MASTERY OVER THE TONGUE are CO-CREATORS and have the power to manifest this same creative power to CREATE. What we will create is a BETTER WORLD for ourselves. The scenario in this Torah portion shows that when our thoughts or desires are not in HARMONY with ECHAD then the UPPER FORCES will work against you in your undertaking, “ Balaam arose in the morning and saddled his she-donkey and went with the officers of Moab. God’s wrath flared because he was going, and an angel of HASHEM stood on the road to impede him.” Numbers. 22:21,22. This scenario illustrates to us that the very THOUGHTS THAT OPPOSES ECHAD has to be CORRECTED. The CORRECTION is defined as a TRANSFORMATION of the 613 Desires of the heart or THOUGHT CONSTRUCTS that need transforming into thoughts of ONE WITH G-D. This aids in reaching the Goal of Creation. Once that Goal is reached it is manifest as PHYSICAL IMMORTALITY in the Physical Body. PHYSICAL IMMORTALITY is defined as a CONSTANT STATE OF IMPROVEMENT. This improvement brings about the PHYSICALLY, EMOTIONAL, MENTAL,INTELLECTUAL SHEAFS or COVERINGS, etc...that we are made up of to CONSTANTLY IMPROVE. The Prophet Ezekiel gives a description of a BEING who reached this GOAL, “I saw and behold! There was a likeness like the appearance of fire; from the appearance of his loins and downward there was fire; from his loins and upward was like the appearance of a radiance like the color of the Chashmal.” 8:2. The Path of Life leads us to what the prophet described and BEYOND. The PATH is spoken of as the MIDDLE not going to the right or to the left but staying in the CENTER of our BEING. The first BLESSING that Balaam spoke concerning Israel, “How can I curse? – God has not cursed. How can I anger? – HASHEM is not angry.”, Empowers the Jew to reach this Goal first among the nations in order to aid them in making the same Goal of Creation.
